SELECT A DIAMOND SHAPE
Round Brilliant is todays most popular diamond cut.
This shape consists of 57 facets (58 with a culet) and displays the most fire and
scintillation of all the cuts.
Oval Cut is similar to a Round Brilliant, except for its elliptical shape.
This cut was invented in the early 1960s. The Oval usually has 56 facets which
display a visible bow-tie.
Emerald Cut
can be rectangular or square in shape and have beveled corners and
step-cut facets. They have a window-like transparency that makes these stones both
classic and elegant.
Pear Shape
is a combination of oval and marquise cuts. The sparkling teardrop
has good proportions and refracts the light well. This shape looks best set as a
pendant or pair of earrings.
Heart Shape
may be hard to find, but it is considered the most sentimental
of all the diamond shapes. It is important to find a heart with even lobes and a
well-defined outline.
Radiant Cut
is in the shape of a rectangle with rounded corners. The facets
are cut into a pattern that gives this diamond the unique appearance of cracked
ice.
Cushion Cut
is an antique cut and is also referred to as Pillow cut or
the Candlelight diamond. Cushion cut diamonds have larger facets and rounded corners
than most cuts so as to increase their sparkle under candlelight.
Princess Cut
is a square cut diamond with 90 degree angles on each corner.
It has a tremendous amount of brilliance, second only to rounds. This shape has
become increasingly popular within the past few years.
Triangle /Trillian Cut
, first designed in Amsterdam, is cut into the shape of a wedge. The
corners of this shape may be pointed or rounded and the body will vary depending
on the stones characteristics and the cutters preference.
Asscher Cut
, often called the square emerald cut, has cropped corners
and was designed in 1902 by the Asscher Brothers of Holland. The asscher cut is designed
to draw the beholders eye deep into the diamond, very stylish and compose striking unique jewelry.
Marquise Cut
The standard marquise cut contains 56 facets. This shape is elongated with pointed
ends. The bow-tie effect is typical for this particular shape
and its visibility is dependent upon how well the stone is cut.
